Mark recently graduated from the Royal College of Art where his final show was a resounding success (my words not his). Two pieces were purchased by the RCA for their own collection and several sold to private collectors. Mark is renting studio space at Studio 16 for a few months to make a collection of new work for a forthcoming exhibition entitled ‘Cassius Clay’ which is being organised by Marcelle Joseph, an independent curator and author based in London. Marcelle founded ‘Joseph Projects’ a roving contemporary arts project who stage 4 or 5 significant exhibitions each year, highlighting a range of important emerging to established artists working across a variety of media. Cassius Clay will be held at 84 Hatton Gardens on the 2nd October. More information to follow….
Sunny weather and a good turn out made this day an unexpected pleasure. Even the mayor stopped by the stall and had a chat. There was lots of interest in what we do and particularly in the available studio space. Carolyn deserves and extra special mention for her ability to keep on the go all day. Thanks to everyone for taking part, well done all.
An exciting invitation from Gerry Smith at Arts Trail Studios in Leamington Spa has resulted in Studio Sixteen exhibiting work at the Studios. We saw the space for the first time today but already some work is in place and the the exhibition space is starting to look good. The work will be updated on a regular basis, so if you have the time, pop in and have a look at our first showing. Now that we have seen how the space works we will be making work specifically for the space.

The big kiln had its first firing and it was a success. Mike had to do a slight rewiring at the start but after that the kiln fired successfully. The control system for the kiln is a work of art (all thanks to Mike). Ive just got some glaze tests to fire and then we can test it at the full temperature.
Hard at work even on a Saturday. I visited the studio yesterday just to check the moisture content on some sculptural work and found Mike and Tim coiling elements by hand. Amazing! The inside of the kiln is now looking fantastic.
